Microsoft is gearing up to introduce compact versions of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop this spring. These devices will feature smaller 11- or 12-inch displays, catering to users seeking lightweight and portable PCs. Both models will maintain a premium design, similar to their larger counterparts.

The smaller Surface Pro is reportedly aimed at competing with the 11-inch iPad Pro, featuring a high refresh rate display, support for pen input, and a detachable keyboard accessory. Meanwhile, the smaller Surface Laptop, expected to replace the Surface Laptop Go, will include upgrades like a backlit keyboard, higher-resolution touchscreen, and an all-metal build akin to the larger Surface Laptop series.

Powered by Snapdragon X/Plus SoCs, these devices promise excellent performance and battery life at competitive prices, likely between $800 and $900. They will complement the existing Snapdragon-powered Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 models.

The launch is expected in April or May, though it is unclear whether these new devices will be launched at the Surface for Business event on January 30 or at a consumer-focused event later.

Additionally, Microsoft plans to release Intel Lunar Lake editions of the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 next month, which will cater to business users with 5G connectivity in large-screen configurations. Looking ahead, the company is also working on the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8, which are expected to run on the upcoming Snapdragon X2 SoC.

With three updates to the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lines within a year, Microsoft is reinforcing its commitment to these flagship products and strengthening its presence in the high-end PC market.
